If you are thinking of selling your home during the holidays, there are a few things to consider before putting it on the market.
When I am advising clients whether or not to wait until after the holidays to list their house, a few things I ask are:
- Do you have a lot of family coming to visit during the holiday season? If so, having to show your home with hardly any notice probably won’t be the most convenient or enjoyable thing for your family.
- Are you okay keeping decorations to a minimum? People viewing your home like to be able to imagine themselves living in your house and excessive decorations might be distracting and/or cover up features of the home.
- What is your timeline? If you are selling because of a job transfer or other life situation, listing your home for sale during the holidays might be a necessity.
One thing to keep in mind that there is less inventory during the winter season and while there are fewer buyers during the winter, the people who do look at your house are more likely to be serious buyers. If listing your house during the holidays will not be another hassle on top of the already hectic holiday season, it might be worth considering.
